The Grey Havens Group was founded in 2010 in Longmont, Colorado with the intention of bringing Tolkien fans together for discussion and fellowship. Only a handful of people attended our first meeting but our group quickly grew to include members and partners all over the world. We host numerous discussion groups, a lecture/discussion series and an annual symposium. We host regular activities for families, including Fandoms Unite!, a monthly event for young fans of science fiction and fantasy. In 2013, GHG grew to include Grey Havens YA, a group in which young adults grades 6-12 continue our legacy of celebrating and exploring imaginative literature.
Nothing was ever made by human hands or realized in the intellect that was not first conceived of in the imagination. Imagination helps us to recognize challenges and overcome them. It helps us to see possibilities and turn them into realities. Asking “what if?” is how art, science and philosophy begin. Founding authors of imaginative fiction such as George MacDonald and J.R.R. Tolkien worried that we become so used to the world around us that we cease to wonder at it, cease to question it and may even cease to know its worth. Their antidote was the imagination. Join us to explore the imaginative works of great authors and create your own!
